SCHOOLS SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY SOCIETIES (SSTS) NATIONAL SPEAKERS COMPETITION ON ENERGY

 

This competition will involve High school students (Grades 10-13) islandwide competing for prizes from the regional to the national level. Each student is asked to make an oral presentation on one of the following categories below:

 

  1. Energy Efficiency & Conservation                                                
  2. Energy and the Environment
  3. New and Renewable Energy
  4. Traditional Sources of Energy
  5. Energy Food & Nutrition

 

Each presentation should last no more than 15 minutes during which the speaker will be judged by a panel. Speakers are expected to present information necessary to support the theme of the presentation. The presentation should be in the speaker’s own words and any quotes or extracts obtained for the presentation must be acknowledged. Speakers are expected to relate the topic to the present state of our Jamaican society.  Critical comments on Science and Technology issues are encouraged. Correct grammar is absolutely essential. On the day of the competition, a hard copy of the presentation should be submitted.

 

The playoff dates are as follows:

 

October 20, 2005 - Schools in the Western Region (Honover, Trelawny, St. James and Westmoreland) at The Montego Bay Civic Centre (Dome), Sam Sharpe Square.

 

October 26, 2005 – Schools in the Central Region (St. Elizabeth, Manchester, St. Ann, and Clarendon) at the Cecil Charlton Hall, Mandeville.

 

November 4, 2005 – Schools in the Eastern Region (Kingston & St. Andrew, St. Catherine, St. Mary, St. Thomas and Portland) at the Ministry of Education Caenwood Auditorium, Kingston.

 

November 11, 2005 – National Finals in Kingston at the Scientific Research Council, Hope Gardens, Kingston 6
