THE CARICOM SCIENCE AWARD
INTRODUCTION
CARICOM, Caribbean Money Market Brokers Limited (CMMB) and CARISCIENCE are instituting a high level annual award to honor distinguished scientists from the region. The purpose is to give recognition and visibility to outstanding scientific achievements made by individuals from the CARICOM countries.
NATURE
The Award will be awarded jointly during the period 2006-2008 – one in physics or mathematics and the other in Chemistry or Life Sciences. Thereafter, a single award will be made.
The Award will carry a cash award of US $5,000 generously donated by CMMB and a Plaque bearing a citation highlighting the major contributions fro which the award is made. The Award will be presented to the recipient at a special occasion arranged by CARICOM, CMMB and CARISCIENCE. It will be called the CARICOM SCIENCE AWARD.
ELIGIBILITY
Candidates must be CARICOM nationals or scientists residing in the region for at least 10 years. The major criterion is scientific research of outstanding international merit carried out at institutions and research centres in CARICOM countries.
INTERNATIONAL JURY
Selection of awardees will be carried out by a jury of internationally renowned scientists and overseen by a Board comprising representatives of CARICOM, CARISCIENCE and CMMB. The jury will be chaired by a representative of UNESCO. Members of this Jury will not be eligible for the CARICOM Science Award.
NOMINATIONS
Nominations are invited from Science Academies, National Research Councils, Universities, Scientific Institutions and Research Centres. Self nominations will not be accepted.
